Surgery

Someday one of these plans will actually be about Game Development...

My four year old, Aidan, has had a couple of surgeries so far. The first one was fairly minor and he bounced back from it by the next day.

The second one was an Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy in which they make a hole in the bottom of the third ventricle to allow free movement of fluid from the brain in the spinal cord areas. So right now he has a circular set of stitches about the size of a quarter just above the hairline on the right side of his head.

Unfortunately he had some bleeding in the brain during the surgery so he has a couple of drains in place coming of the right and left side of his skull to try and clear out the blood. Once the CT scan shows that the blood is gone they will then try weaning him off his shunt again. The fluid coming out is still bloody, but it doesn't look like he is still actively bleeding.

He hasn't quite been himself the last couple of days and his heart rate has been acting a little funny, so they are keeping a close eye on him.

He has a least one more surgery to go from here. If all goes well he could be out of the PICU by the end of next week.

My wife has been keeping a journal that she has been updating when she has the time.
